Several small feeders located throughout your yard will work better than a single large feeder in attracting hummers.

The best way, however, to attract hummingbirds is to develop your own "Hummingbird Garden." A combination of flowers, vines and shrubs offering a variety of nectar sources can be a powerful attractant.

Once the birds start visiting your flowers on a regular basis, you can add feeders to different locations to make observations easier and more enjoyable.

These are some of the hummingbird's favorite plants.

  • Butterfly Weed
  • Cardinal flower
  • Foxglove
  • Fuchsia
  • Lantana
  • Red Salvia
  • Scarlet Sage

  • Coral Honeysuckle
  • Morning glory
  • Trumpet Creeper

  • Butterfly bush
  • Coralberry
  • Turk's Cap

The Enjoying Hummingbirds More booklet, available from the Birdzilla store, provides a three page listing of desirable plants and their appropriate hardiness zones. Developing your own hummingbird garden adds to the beauty of your yard while attracting these wonderful birds.
